Company: Southern Company Position: Meter Reader Location: Kennesaw, GA Posted: 04/16/18 Closing Date: Until Filled Job Description: Records gas consumption data from residential, industrial, and commercial customers using electronic remote reading device mounted in company vehicle; reports data for Marketers to use for customer billing.

Representative Duties and Responsibilities:

Downloads meter reading route(s) daily; enters route information into ENSCAN electronic data collection units in vehicle; drives route and collects data from Electronic Reading Transmitters (ERTs) mounted on customers’ meters; uploads data at end of work day.  Reviews Missed Meter Report daily to identify incomplete meter readings; performs special ENSCAN and manual readings to obtain meter data.  Maintains electronic equipment to ensure accurate readings.  Troubleshoots ERT problems: inspects, reprograms, repairs, removes, reinstalls units.  Interacts with customers via telephone and in person to obtain information and answer questions.  Identifies problems concerning customers assigned to wrong route; updates systems and corrects problems.  Maintains and repairs ENSCAN and ERT equipment to ensure accurate meter readings; removes lithium batteries and disposes as hazardous waste.  Converts non-ERT meters to ERT system.  Performs shut-offs, on occasion; paints meters; removes meters.

Education and Experience: High School diploma or GED, 1-2 years’ meter reading experience. Preferred: ERT training, ENSCAN training or Equivalent academic education and experience
