Position: Groundskeeper Location: Marietta, GA Posted: 07/10/18 Closing Date: Until Filled Job Description: Life University is looking for a compassionate individual to serve as a Grounds Keeper. Under direct supervision, this position supports the Facilities Management- Grounds Department by maintaining the landscape of University property which includes irrigation maintenance, mowing, trimming, pruning, tree removal, planting and trash removal. This position performs a variety of landscape maintenance tasks to preserve and maintain the University Campus.

This position is also responsible for campus snow removal which ensures safe driving conditions during the winter months and event support which includes furniture and/or material moves in support of special projects or initiatives. Responsible for working as a team member in developing and maintaining grounds maintenance work for the University campus.

Responsibilities 1. Perform a wide variety of tasks related to the maintenance, and upkeep of University grounds and facilities. 2. Use appropriate landscaping methods to care for, preserve and water plants; sod, seed and fertilize lawns; prepare beds and properly install appropriate plant material. 3. Understand and apply correct procedure for fertilizer mixture and application to all plant material on campus. 4. Properly prune trees and shrubs. 5. Provide maintenance for annuals and perennials, and other plantings as needed. 6. Properly mow, edge, and trim lawns with appropriate tools, operate equipment properly so as to avoid injury to self and others. 7. Maintain safe working conditions at all times by using supplies and equipment properly and taking necessary precautions. 8. Properly care for and service power operated equipment used for grounds keeping activities. 9. Clean-up and maintain University grounds. 10. Pick up litter from University property, remove rubbish; empty outdoor garbage cans; rake and/or blow grass clippings and leaves; set up and operate sprinklers; remove debris. 11. Must be able to initiate and complete basic landscape duties on campus to include mowing, planting, trimming, blowing, fertilizing and trash removal but also, trenching, sodding and site irrigation.

12. Assists with all Special Event setup and tear down. 13. Perform clean-up and maintenance of interior areas as required. 14. Assists with campus office relocation along with ensuring the trash is removed daily. 15. Initiates and repairs any irrigation issues as needed.

Requirements 1. Must have at least one (1) year of experience in operating grounds related equipment, i.e., mowers, edger’s, etc. 2. Able to perform duties independently and supervision is generally available. 3. Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division). 4. Must be able to work well with diverse groups of individuals. 5. Must be skilled in operating power tools and machinery. 6. Knowledge of proper gardening techniques and ornamental plant materials. 7. Strong attention to detail; ability to organize work and perform duties with a high level of accuracy. 8. Effective oral and written communication skills. 9. Must have a valid Georgia Driver’s License.
